Leadership and Remote Teams

Having a leadership position does not mean being a leader! I confess that it makes me a little confused when someone calls himself as such.

Who should classify someone as a leader or not, are the people who report directly to that someone.

For example, in a team of 3 people, two may consider their superior to be a leader and the other not! And, in my opinion, it’s normal — even more so when we are increasingly dealing with people from different countries, cultures, religions, preferences, ambitions, etc.

At the moment, as a CTO I have a leadership position and several teams under my responsibility, but that doesn’t mean I’m a leader — even the definition of a leader can change from person to person —.

I know that there is a definition of the word “leader” in the dictionary, but I need to manage people and not dictionaries, so the definition of each one is much more important than what is in the dictionary.

For that reason, I try to get to know the people who work with me as much as I can and they allow me, in order to adapt to each one as much as possible!

  • Is it difficult? Of course!
  • Is it possible? Of course!
  • Is it possible in a 100% remote team? Of course!

The union makes the strength and the technology brings the proximity!

My dream is not to be a Leader, it is to be able to make each person on my team happy, even if they are thousands of kilometers away!
